Story
According to local legends and historical accounts, Jain monks and traders traveling through the ancient Karnataka–Wayanad trade routes established this temple centuries ago as a place of worship and spiritual learning. Over time, the temple became an important center for the Jain community living in the region. During the Mysore invasions, Tipu Sultan is believed to have used the temple structure as a storage place for his army’s ammunition and batteries due to its strong granite construction. This eventually led to the place being called “Battery,” which later evolved into the present-day name “Sulthan Bathery.” Even today, the temple silently narrates stories of spirituality, trade, war, and cultural transformation.
