History

Poojappura Nagarukavu Temple is believed to have a sacred history of more than two and a half centuries. The temple originally existed as a small altar surrounded by dense forests and sacred groves. Over time, the temple gained greater spiritual importance and devotion through worship practices and divine experiences associated with Nagaraja, Nagaramma, and Nagakanya. An Ashtamangalya Devaprasnam was later conducted under the guidance of respected Thanthris and astrologers, after which several remedial rituals and spiritual improvements were performed, leading to the temple’s continued growth and prominence.

Poojappura Nagarukavu Temple is an ancient Kerala Nagarukavu (Sacred Serpent Grove) temple renowned for Nagaraja worship and Sarpa Dosha related prayers. Devotees strongly believe that the temple blesses families with prosperity, peace, and children. The temple also holds a deep spiritual connection with Shiva worship through Sree Vasuki, who is revered as the personification of Lord Shiva’s divine power. The temple is widely known for its mystical spiritual experiences, miracle stories associated with snakes and divine blessings, and its calm, peaceful, and traditional Kerala temple atmosphere.

Many miraculous stories are associated with the temple and are well known among local devotees. One famous incident tells about a priest who returned from the sanctum wearing living cobra snakes around his neck like garlands after offering blessings to devotees. Another popular story speaks about a child who wished to eat a banana fruit offered to the deity. The next day, a fruit marked with a snake bite was mysteriously found at the child’s home, which devotees considered as a divine blessing from the deity.
