Story
According to temple legends, Pisharikavu Temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali, the fierce and protective form of Devi. The temple is associated with the story of Rakthabeejan from the Devi Mahatmyam. Rakthabeejan had a boon that every drop of his blood falling on the earth would create another demon. To destroy him, Goddess Kali spread her tongue across the battlefield and drank every drop of blood while killing the demon. After this victory, the Goddess became worshipped as the protector against evil and negativity. Temple traditions also say that Vaishya merchants established worship at this sacred place with the guidance of the famous Kattumadam Thantri. The divine sword “Nandakam,” worshipped near the sanctum, is believed to symbolize the powerful presence of the Goddess herself.
