Story
According to local belief and temple traditions, Lord Shiva is worshipped here as Kirathamoorthy, the divine hunter form of Shiva. Devotees believe that Shiva appeared in this powerful form to protect righteousness and bless sincere devotees with courage, wisdom, and relief from hardships. The temple has long been regarded as a sacred place where prayers offered with devotion bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual strength. Another important belief associated with the temple is that the original structure may have once been a Jain shrine before later becoming a Shiva temple during the medieval period. The unique apsidal sanctum structure and architectural patterns strongly resemble ancient Jain temples of South India. This transformation reflects the historical religious and cultural evolution of Kerala during the early medieval era. For centuries, the temple remained a spiritual and educational center where Vedic learning, Sanskrit studies, temple arts, and Brahmanical traditions flourished. Scholars, priests, and devotees gathered here to preserve ancient Hindu customs and rituals.
