Story
According to local belief and Ramayana tradition, Seetha Devi reached the forests of present-day Pulpally after being abandoned by Lord Rama. Sage Valmiki gave her shelter in his ashram, where Lava and Kusha were later born and brought up. The nearby Valmiki Ashramam is traditionally believed to be the place where they spent their childhood. One of the most famous legends associated with the temple is the story of the Ashwamedha Yagam horse. Lava and Kusha stopped the sacred horse sent by Lord Rama and challenged his army without knowing that Rama was their father. When Rama finally met Seetha Devi, she prayed to Mother Earth and disappeared into the earth, returning to her divine origin. Nearby places like Chedattinkavu are believed to be connected with this sacred event.
