Story
The central legend of Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple is connected with the famous Kirathamoorthy episode from the Mahabharata. Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, performed severe penance to obtain the divine weapon Pasupatastra from Lord Shiva. To test Arjunaโs devotion, courage, and determination, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi appeared before him disguised as a hunter and huntress. At the same time, a demon in the form of a wild boar appeared in the forest, and both Arjuna and the hunter shot arrows at it. A dispute arose over who killed the boar, leading to a fierce battle between Arjuna and the hunter. Though Arjuna fought bravely, he eventually realized that the hunter was none other than Lord Shiva himself. Shiva and Parvathi then revealed their divine forms and blessed Arjuna with the Pasupatastra weapon. Temple tradition believes that this sacred event took place at Kadampuzha, and the Goddess here is worshipped as the divine huntress who accompanied Lord Shiva.
